Every important documents, from your birth certificate, passport, marriage certificate, high school or college diploma, awards, resume, cv, mortgage paperwork, etc., you must have all these documents scanned in high resolution in both pdf and jpeg and saved up in your hard drive, in one or two external hard drives, and especially online on an online drive or Google Doc. It's good to have them saved in two different formats just in case you can't open one particular format, say when you are traveling to outside the country and lose your passport, you can go to an internet cafe and download or print them but having a jpeg format is good because usually these wireless kiosks don't have pdf reader. It's also good to backup all your pictures or videos, especially the "five-starred ones," you know, the ones you really love or you've post-processed.
Memories may fade but pictures and videos in this age of technology, will live on forever. You never know, your grandchildren or great grandchildren someday may enjoy laughing and wowing the slideshow of all your pictures and videos. I've always wished to see more pictures of my parents' childhood. So scan and back them all up on a regular basis, say once a month or once every 3 months, then set up a reminder in calendar or PC.
